Mood Disorders

What are mood disorders?

Mood disorders are a category of mental health conditions characterized by significant changes in mood that interfere with daily life.

These disorders can cause emotional highs, lows, or both, and affect how a person feels, thinks, and functions.

Common mood disorders include:

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

Characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in activities.

Bipolar Disorder

Involves episodes of depression and mania (extreme euphoria, increased energy, and activity levels) or hypomania (a less severe form of mania).

Cyclothymic Disorder

A milder form of bipolar disorder with fluctuating mood disturbances involving periods of hypomania and mild depression.

Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD)

A chronic form of depression with less severe but longer-lasting symptoms than major depression. Characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in activities.
